Two noted paleontologists present a detailed portrait of the family Canidae across 40 million years of evolution in this illustrated…
volume. After decades of research and analysis, paleontologists Xiaoming Wang and Richard H. Tedford established the modern framework for understanding the evolutionary relationship of canids. Combining their work with Mauricio Antón's reconstructions of both extinct and extant species, Wang and Tedford now present a nuanced and visually stunning portrait of the origin and evolution of canids. The fossil record of the Canidae, particularly those from their birthplace in North America, are the strongest of their kind among known groups of carnivorans. Such a wonderfully detailed evolutionary history makes the canid an ideal model organism for the mapping of predator behavior and morphological specializations. With its innovative illustrated approach to this important branch of animal and fossil study, Dogs provides an unprecedented reference for anyone interested in the evolution of these fascinating animals.A fun, fact-filled dive into the world of dinosaurs for kids-packed full of brilliant images. All the basics of these amazing…

therapies available nowadays. The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is a subcomponent of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and dysfunction of one or more subdivisions of the ANS, when accompanying other diseases, is linked to a worse prognosis of the latter. In some circumstances or when severe, dysfunction of ANS itself results in symptoms and disability. A myriad of factors can cause autonomic dysfunction and more than one can concur even in the same patient; due to the expansive nature of the ANS, patients can be affected by a wide range of conditions. Each chapter is characterized by a similar structure and is devoted to a different dysfunction. For each pathology, the book offers the essential information on mechanisms of action, treatments and outcomes. Written by experts in the research of these disorders, the volume addresses primarily Neurologists, but will be a useful tool also for Gastroenterologists, Ophthalmologists, Urologists, Cardiologists and Internal medicine specialists.Ammonoid Paleobiology: From Macroevolution To Paleogeography (Topics in Geobiology #44)
Par Christian Klug, Dieter Korn, Kenneth De Baets, Isabelle Kruta, Royal H. Mapes. 2015
This two-volume work is a testament to the abiding interest and human fascination with ammonites. We offer a new model…
to explain the morphogenesis of septa and the shell, we explore their habitats by the content of stable isotopes in their shells, we discuss the origin and later evolution of this important clade, and we deliver hypotheses on its demise. The Ammonoidea produced a great number of species that can be used in biostratigraphy and possibly, this is the macrofossil group, which has been used the most for that purpose. Nevertheless, many aspects of their anatomy, mode of life, development or paleobiogeographic distribution are still poorly known. Themes treated are biostratigraphy, paleoecology, paleoenvironment, paleobiogeography, evolution, phylogeny, and ontogeny. Advances such as an explosion of new information about ammonites, new technologies such as isotopic analysis, tomography and virtual paleontology in general, as well as continuous discovery of new fossil finds have given us the opportunity to present a comprehensive and timely "state of the art" compilation. Moreover, it also points the way for future studies to further enhance our understanding of this endlessly fascinating group of organisms.Plastic Surgery of the Lower Eyelids

cosmetic surgery. The lower eyelids are very prone to malposition and even mild scarring or slight irregularities cause patient dissatisfaction. Ectropion, lagophthalmos, and retraction are common results of attempts to repair or rejuvenate the periocular area, but also pose serious risks to the eye. Skills in forestalling these issues as well as repairing them when they do are occur are paramount for any facial surgeon and are covered throughout the textbook.Plastic Surgery of the Lower Eyelids explores solutions and treatment of the spectrum of lower eyelid conditions and aesthetic concerns. It also highlights both functional and cosmetic surgery of the lower eyelids and cheeks that often co-exist. In addition to treatments for eyelid retraction that occurs after cosmetic lower eyelid surgery, this textbook details maneuvers that forestall malposition when performing aesthetic surgery. Residents, fellows and clinicians in oculoplastic surgery, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and other related fields will find this textbook to be an essential guide for delivering safe and effective lower eyelid surgery.Evolution: An Evolving Theory

many medical disciplines overlap. Each physician brings a specific expertise, but the goal should be that the end result of all this input is much more than the sum of the parts. Collaboration, insight and overall knowledge of all parties involved are essential to achieve an optimal patient outcome.Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons have traditionally focused on the bony parts of the orbit, but usually have limited knowledge of the intricacies of binocular single vision, and for the Ophthalmologist it may be the other way around. In the past, scientific articles were often written from a single point of view, resulting in tunnel vision for the physician. The multidisciplinary approach to the orbit leads to an improvement in treatment that should not be underestimated and from which the patient benefits immensely. But especially for the physician and the trainees, a multidisciplinary consultation is a real goldmine in which a lot can be gained. Not every medical problem needs to be tackled in a multidisciplinary framework, but problems around the eye socket often do.At Amphia Hospital in Breda, the Netherlands, more than fifteen years ago, a collaboration between Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Endocrinologists, Radiologists and Ophthalmologists was initiated, which has proven to be very fruitful. The main focus was on Graves' Orbitopathy and orbital fractures, but problems associated with these conditions were also frequently encountered. For those who want to follow this example, or for those who are interested in both orbital surgery, anatomy or ophthalmological orbital issues, this book could prove to be complementary.Diagnosis and Surgical Therapy of Infantile Corneal Opacities (In Clinical Practice)
