Par Moiya McTier. 2022
In this approachable and fascinating biography of the galaxy, an astrophysicist and folklorist details everything humans have discovered—from the Milky…
Way's formation to its eventual death, and what else there is to learn about the universe we call home. After a few billion years of bearing witness to life on Earth, of watching one hundred billion humans go about their day-to-day lives, of feeling unbelievably lonely, and of hearing its own story told by others, The Milky Way would like a chance to speak for itself. All one hundred billion stars and fifty undecillion tons of gas of it. It all began some thirteen billion years ago, when clouds of gas scattered through the universe's primordial plasma just could not keep their metaphorical hands off each other. They succumbed to their gravitational attraction, and the galaxy we know as the Milky Way was born. Since then, the galaxy has watched as dark energy pushed away its first friends, as humans mythologized its name and purpose, and as galactic archaeologists have worked to determine its true age (rude). The Milky Way has absorbed supermassive (an actual technical term) black holes, made enemies of a few galactic neighbors, and mourned the deaths of countless stars. Our home galaxy has even fallen in love. After all this time, the Milky Way finally feels that it's amassed enough experience for the juicy tell-all we've all been waiting for. Its fascinating autobiography recounts the history and future of the universe in accessible but scientific detail, presenting a summary of human astronomical knowledge thus far that is unquestionably out of this world. Par Ali Kaveh, Hossein Yousefpoor. 2024
In this book, various chaos maps are embedded in eleven efficient and well-known metaheuristics and a significant improvement in the optimization…
results is achieved. The two basic steps of metaheuristic algorithms consist of exploration and exploitation. The imbalance between these stages causes serious problems for metaheuristic algorithms, which are immature convergence and stopping in local optima. Chaos maps with chaotic jumps can save algorithms from being trapped in local optima and lead to convergence toward global optima. Embedding these maps in the exploration phase, exploitation phase, or both simultaneously corresponds to three efficient and useful scenarios. By creating competition between different modes and increasing diversity in the search space and creating sudden jumps in the search phase, improvements are achieved for chaotic algorithms. Four Chaotic Algorithms, including Chaotic Cyclical Parthenogenesis Algorithm, Chaotic Water Evaporation Optimization, Chaotic Tug-of-War Optimization, and Chaotic Thermal Exchange Optimization are developed.32nd International Conference on Organization and Technology of Maintenance (Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems #866)

Par Majda Khalil Suleiman, Shabbir Ahmad Shahid. 2023
This book is an outcome of collaborative efforts of a multidisciplinary team of scientists. The core objective of this book…
is to provide cross-sectoral information on the different aspects of the terrestrial environment and ecosystems of Kuwait. The book will be considered as a ready source of information for those seeking information on the terrestrial environment and ecosystems, assessment and restoration, as well as sustainable uses and management. In spite of Kuwait’s hyper-arid environment, it is rich in natural resources including a wide range of native plants, animal species, different habitats, protected areas, diversified soils and water and oil resources. While the desert of Kuwait constitutes various features, such as sand sheet, sand dunes, nebkhas, inland and coastal sabkhas, rock outcrop, wadis and farming areas, it is rich in flora and fauna (native plants, mammals, birds, reptiles, etc.). Due to changing climate, deserts of Kuwait as well as other countries are under severe threat of degradation and the degradation may be irreversible. To realize these impacts, an effort is being made to provide a ready source of information to highlight the potential threats to the terrestrial ecosystems and formulate adaptation and mitigation strategies for long-term ecosystems services in Kuwait as well as other countries located in a desert environment, such as Gulf Cooperation Council Countries, Africa and countries in the Arab region. The book includes sixteen chapters covering multidiscipline subjects (such as natural resources, climate and climate change, geographical features, terrestrial habitats, ecosystems and threats, water and soil resources, agriculture, food security, water-energy-food-climate nexus, green-grey-blue water footprints of various crops, etc.). Thus, this book is a unique resource that provides the latest scientific information in a single volume.Playful Science Investigations in Early Childhood: A Longitudinal Case Study (SpringerBriefs in Education)
