Par Georg Philipp Roßrucker. 2023
Search and navigation in hyperlinked networks have been subjects of research since the Internet emerged. Due to its incompleteness in…
terms of linking related content, the existing linking structure of the Web and similar networks cannot be utilized as a searchable index without prior application of suitable crawling strategies and content categorization. Following the example of sitemaps, a map-like extension to the existing link structure of the network is proposed that creates additional contextual links. For this, a concept and algorithms are devised that allow the creation of contextual cluster files, to which documents are assigned and between which semantically relevant links are established. The resulting WebMap covers all searchable resources on the original network in a contextual overlay network and enables new search and navigation approaches.Where Is Science Leading Us?: And What Can We Do to Steer It?
Par Lars Jaeger, Michel Dacorogna. 2023
This book charts the evolution of the sciences and technologies that have shaped our modern age like nothing else in…
the last 60 years. As well as describing many exciting developments, it will also highlight the challenges and dangers of the technologies that have emerged from them. While science and technology have brought about enormous and often astonishing improvements in our quality of life, they have often also brought with them considerable risks, including the risk of human extinction. We place particular emphasis on the aspects that directly impact us as human beings: Artificial Intelligence (AI), enhancements of our brains/minds through innovative neuro-technologies, and the integration of nanotechnology into our bodies for early disease detection and elimination. What philosophical implications arise from these transformations? Authored by two theoretical physicists who are also experts in economics and capital markets - a rather rare combination - the book will explain the developments of modern science and the resulting technologies. It also examines the current state of play and emerging developments in a manner accessible to non-scientists. Based on their own experience and the analysis, the authors also propose ways in which science can progress more harmoniously in future.Cyber Risk Management: Prioritize Threats, Identify Vulnerabilities and Apply Controls

This latest textbook from bestselling author, Douglas E. Comer, is a class-tested book providing a comprehensive introduction to cloud computing.…
Focusing on concepts and principles, rather than commercial offerings by cloud providers and vendors, The Cloud Computing Book: The Future of Computing Explained gives readers a complete picture of the advantages and growth of cloud computing, cloud infrastructure, virtualization, automation and orchestration, and cloud-native software design. The book explains real and virtual data center facilities, including computation (e.g., servers, hypervisors, Virtual Machines, and containers), networks (e.g., leaf-spine architecture, VLANs, and VxLAN), and storage mechanisms (e.g., SAN, NAS, and object storage). Chapters on automation and orchestration cover the conceptual organization of systems that automate software deployment and scaling. Chapters on cloud-native software cover parallelism, microservices, MapReduce, controller-based designs, and serverless computing. Although it focuses on concepts and principles, the book uses popular technologies in examples, including Docker containers and Kubernetes. Final chapters explain security in a cloud environment and the use of models to help control the complexity involved in designing software for the cloud. The text is suitable for a one-semester course for software engineers who want to understand cloud, and for IT managers moving an organization’s computing to the cloud.Data Science for Wind Energy

has extensively class-tested early conceptions of the book over the years and supplements mathematical arguments with informal discussions to aid readers in understanding the presented topics. “Safe” – that is, paradox-free – informal set theory is introduced following on the heels of Russell’s Paradox as well as the topics of finite, countable, and uncountable sets with an exposition and use of Cantor’s diagonalisation technique. Predicate logic “for the user” is introduced along with axioms and rules and extensive examples. Partial orders and the minimal condition are studied in detail with the latter shown to be equivalent to the induction principle. Mathematical induction is illustrated with several examples and is followed by a thorough exposition of inductive definitions of functions and sets. Techniques for solving recurrence relations including generating functions, the O- and o-notations, and trees are provided. Over 200 end of chapter exercises are included to further aid in the understanding and applications of discrete mathematics.Distributed Computing and Intelligent Technology: 20th International Conference, ICDCIT 2024, Bhubaneswar, India, January 17–20, 2024, Proceedings (Lecture Notes in Computer Science #14501)
