can we harness information to quantify its order, structure, and intricacy? Delving into phenomena from the intricate processes in physical systems to the dynamic behaviours in cellular automata and pattern formation, readers will uncover the profound interplay between physics and information theory. This intricate relationship provides fresh insight into physical phenomena, reimagining them through the lens of information. Notably, the book demystifies how seemingly opposing forces—rising order and increasing disorder—coexist, ultimately shedding light on the second law of thermodynamics as an outcome of deterministic, reversible dynamics beneath the surface. Geared towards graduate students, this book presumes an undergraduate foundation in mathematics and physics, ensuring a deep, engaging exploration for its readers.Market Operation for Reactive Power Ancillary Service: Design and Analysis with GAMS Code (Springer Tracts in Electrical and Electronics Engineering)

Par Youqi Li, Fan Li, Song Yang, Chuan Zhang. 2024
Mobile crowdsensing (MCS) is emerging as a novel sensing paradigm in the Internet of Things (IoTs) due to the proliferation…
of smart devices (e.g., smartphones, wearable devices) in people’s daily lives. These ubiquitous devices provide an opportunity to harness the wisdom of crowds by recruiting mobile users to collectively perform sensing tasks, which largely collect data about a wide range of human activities and the surrounding environment. However, users suffer from resource consumption such as battery, processing power, and storage, which discourages users’ participation. To ensure the participation rate, it is necessary to employ an incentive mechanism to compensate users’ costs such that users are willing to take part in crowdsensing. This book sheds light on the design of incentive mechanisms for MCS in the context of game theory. Particularly, this book presents several game-theoretic models for MCS in different scenarios. In Chapter 1, the authors present an overview of MCS and state the significance of incentive mechanism for MCS. Then, in Chapter 2, 3, 4, and 5, the authors propose a long-term incentive mechanism, a fair incentive mechanism, a collaborative incentive mechanism, and a coopetition-aware incentive mechanism for MCS, respectively. Finally, Chapter 6 summarizes this book and point out the future directions. This book is of particular interest to the readers and researchers in the field of IoT research, especially in the interdisciplinary field of network economics and IoT.Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies for Rail Transportation: Advanced Information Enabling Technology for Rail Transportation (Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering #1138)

circular built environment. Each chapter is meticulously crafted to ensure that both academic readers and industry practitioners can grasp the inner workings of each digital technology, understand its relevance to the circular built environment, examine real-life implementations, and appreciate the intriguing business models behind them. Our primary objective is to blend scholarly knowledge with practical inspiration by providing real-life case studies for each innovation. The authors, who possess extensive expertise in their respective fields, have contributed chapters dedicated to digital technologies within their areas of specialization. The book is organized into three distinct parts. The first part focuses on data-driven digital technologies and delves into how their capabilities can facilitate the transition to a circular built environment. Essential aspects such as building information modeling (BIM), digital twins, geographical information systems (GIS), scanning technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), data templates, and material passports are explored as vital tools for data collection, integration, and analysis in the context of circular construction. In the second part, various digital technologies for design and fabrication are introduced. Topics covered include computational design algorithms, additive and subtractive manufacturing, robotic manufacturing, and extended reality. These discussions shed light on how these technologies can be leveraged to enhance design and fabrication processes within the circular built environment. Finally, the last part of the book presents emerging digital concepts related to business and governance. It explores the role of deconstruction and reverse logistics, blockchain technology, digital building logbooks, and innovative business models as enablers of circularity in the built environment. the factory of tomorrow can be designed, built, and run virtually as a digital twin likeness of its real-world counterpart, before the physical structure is actually erected. It highlights the main digitalization technologies that have stimulated the Industry 4.0, how these technologies work and integrate with each other, and how they are shaping the industry of the future. It examines how multimedia data and digital images in particular are being leveraged to create fully virtualized worlds in the form of digital twin factories and fully virtualized industrial assets. It uses BMW Group’s latest SORDI dataset (Synthetic Object Recognition Dataset for Industry), i.e., the largest industrial images dataset to-date and its applications at BMW Group and Idealworks, as one of the main explanatory scenarios throughout the book.It discusses the need of synthetic data to train advanced deep learning computer vision models, and how such datasets will help create the “robot gym” of the future: training robots on synthetic images to prepare them to function in the real world.Data Science—Analytics and Applications: Proceedings of the 5th International Data Science Conference—iDSC2023
Par Peter Haber, Thomas J. Lampoltshammer, Manfred Mayr. 2024
Based on the overall digitalization in all spheres of our lives, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are nowadays cornerstones…
for innovation, problem solutions, and business transformation. Data, whether structured or unstructured, numerical, textual, or audiovisual, put in context with other data or analyzed and processed by smart algorithms, are the basis for intelligent concepts and practical solutions. These solutions address many application areas such as Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, smart energy generation, and distribution, and environmental management. Innovation dynamics and business opportunities for effective solutions for the essential societal, environmental, or health challenges, are enabled and driven by modern data science approaches. However, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are forming a new field that needs attention and focused research. Effective data science is only achieved in a broad and diverse discourse – when data science experts cooperate tightly with application domain experts and scientists exchange views and methods with engineers and business experts. Thus, the 5th International Data Science Conference (iDSC 2023) brings together researchers, scientists, business experts, and practitioners to discuss new approaches, methods, and tools made possible by data science.Management, Tourism and Smart Technologies: ICMTT 2023 Volume 2 (Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems #774)
