Par René Laurentin. 2010

base and the up-to-date advancement in different treatment modalities. Management of diseases at the orbital apex and periorbital skull base has always been a challenge. Multiple specialties are involved, including skull base neurosurgeon, oculoplastic ophthalmologist, otorhinolaryngologist, head and neck surgeon, oncologist, neurologist and radiologist. However, frequently it results into a “no-man’s land”, as no single specialty is entirely familiar with this complex and overlapping anatomical territory. Cranial nerves, carotid artery, and cavernous sinus are just one of the few examples of important anatomical structures that pass through. However, this has often been managed by one specialty especially during surgical planning and operation, resulting in biases in choices of approach and surgical strategies. We believe that this interesting yet complex region deserves special attention with a well-orchestrated multi-disciplinary effort. Traditionally, surgical treatments for diseases in this region involve different types of craniotomy and orbitotomy. In this book, it covers the advancement in imaging modalities, medical therapies, operative instruments, radiation therapy namely stereotactic radiosurgery or radiotherapy, management of diseases in orbital apex and periorbital skull base evolve and improve with time. Minimally invasive surgery in terms of mastering neuro-endoscopy contributes to the intervention advancement.Cataract
Par John Berger. 2011
The great art critic and writer John Berger joined forces again with Turkish writer and illustrator Selçuk Demirel in this…
unexpected pictorial essay. What happens when an art critic loses some of his sight to cataracts? What wonders are glimpsed once vision is restored? In this impressionistic essay written in the spirit of Montaigne, John Berger, whose treatises on seeing have shaped cultural and media studies for four decades, records the effects of cataract removal operations on each of his eyes. The result is an illuminated take on perception. Berger ponders how we can become accustomed to a loss of sense until a dulled world becomes the norm, and describes the sudden richness of reawakened sight with acute attention to sensory detail. This wise little book beckons us to pay close attention to our own senses and wonder at their significance as we follow Berger's journey into a more vivid, differentiated way of seeing. Demirel's witty illustrations complement the text, creating a mini-world where eyes take on whimsical lives of their own. The result is a collaborative collectors' piece perfect for every reader&’s bedside table. This title completes a trilogy of books by Berger and Demirel. Smoke was published in 2018, and What Time Is It? was published in 2019.Refraction and Retinoscopy: How to Pass the Refraction Certificate (MasterPass)

Par Vladimir Thaller. 2023
This book is a practical guide for anyone who performs eyelid surgery, whatever their specialty, and is particularly relevant for…
ophthalmologists in training and non-oculoplastic surgeons who may venture into this field. The step-wise text is supported by numerous original illustrations. It emphasises a logical, minimalist approach to lid surgery and challenges some popular practices. The novel techniques unique to this volume may be of interest to experienced oculoplastic surgeons. They include emphasis on the superiority of Meibomian orifice line lid traction suture placement over using the grey line. This makes bolsterless suture tarsorrhaphy a viable and better alternative to temporary surgical tarsorrhaphy. Maximal use of direct closure and directed laissez-faire encourages tissue expansion in eyelid reconstruction, aided greatly by the placement of a magic suture. The seductively simple medial canthal thermoplasty corrects medial lid laxity without dissection. The control of active thyroid eye disease with orbital depot steroid injections, the importance of full orbital volume replacement after eye removal and the superiority of modified Bick lid margin resection over the lateral tarsal strip for lid tightening are further departures from traditional practice.A raccoon bite on the arm doesn&’t seem that serious, but it soon becomes a life-or-death medical crisis for Melissa…

Living Well with Parkinson's Disease: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You....That You Need to Know

anaesthesia facility, are usually managed only in tertiary eye care centers. Being a difficult entity for comprehensive evaluation, many ophthalmologists lack adequate experience in diagnosing and managing this specialized group of patients. Pediatric glaucoma are an important cause of ocular morbidity and visual impairment, which if diagnosed in time, pays dividend in terms of improved quality of life, visual outcome and less disability associated life years in this young age group. Early diagnosis, prompt and effective treatment and rehabilitation play an important role in final visual outcomes. The book covers all important aspects of pediatric examination beginning from clinical examination, diagnostic investigations and treatment protocols. Certain examinations like intraocular pressure measurement, gonioscopy, detailed fundus examination need sedation/ anaesthesia. The video based procedural modules aim to explain standard protocols for performing basic examination in children, such as, under anaesthesia or sedation. It has a case based approach for all types of childhood glaucomas, which helps the residents, glaucoma fellows and practicing ophthalmologists alike to identify different types of childhood glaucomas, plan respective management and refer early, whenever indicated for these conditions. The book will serve as a ready reckoner, an authentic reference book and a teaching tool for practicing glaucoma specialists, general ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents and glaucoma fellows. The editors have extensive experience in dealing with pediatric glaucoma and contributed years of teaching and research in this field. This book primarily consists of images, diagrams, case presentations and illustrative videos wherever required.
