This book is designed to have a comprehensive review of the spectrum of diseases involving orbital apex and periorbital skull…
base and the up-to-date advancement in different treatment modalities. Management of diseases at the orbital apex and periorbital skull base has always been a challenge. Multiple specialties are involved, including skull base neurosurgeon, oculoplastic ophthalmologist, otorhinolaryngologist, head and neck surgeon, oncologist, neurologist and radiologist. However, frequently it results into a “no-man’s land”, as no single specialty is entirely familiar with this complex and overlapping anatomical territory. Cranial nerves, carotid artery, and cavernous sinus are just one of the few examples of important anatomical structures that pass through. However, this has often been managed by one specialty especially during surgical planning and operation, resulting in biases in choices of approach and surgical strategies. We believe that this interesting yet complex region deserves special attention with a well-orchestrated multi-disciplinary effort. Traditionally, surgical treatments for diseases in this region involve different types of craniotomy and orbitotomy. In this book, it covers the advancement in imaging modalities, medical therapies, operative instruments, radiation therapy namely stereotactic radiosurgery or radiotherapy, management of diseases in orbital apex and periorbital skull base evolve and improve with time. Minimally invasive surgery in terms of mastering neuro-endoscopy contributes to the intervention advancement.Ikigai for Teens: Finding Your Reason for Being
Par Francesc Miralles, Héctor García. 2021
A bestselling motivational book based on the Japanese concept of finding happiness in everyday life, now for young readers! The Japanese…
people say everybody has an "Ikigai," or a reason to live. Some people have found their Ikigai and are aware of it. Other people have it inside, but have not found it yet. This concept, Ikigai, is one of the secrets for a long, active, and happy life.Héctor García and Francesc Miralles visited Ogimi, a town on the north of Okinawa in Japan that has the highest longevity in the world. They spent weeks living with the residents of Ogimi and interviewing dozens of the villagers. These people all had lived to be more than a hundred years old, and they were all in great physical (and spiritual) shape. After their trip, Héctor and Francesc wrote a book examining the centennials' keys to an optimistic and vital existence. What do the oldest people in the world eat, what do they work on, how do they connect with others, and-the best-kept secret-how do they find their Ikigai? Ikigai is what gives them satisfaction and happiness, and brings real meaning to their lives. The result was Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life, an international bestseller which has been translated into over 49 languages. With the book, García and Miralles made it their mission to help its readers find their own Ikigai and discover many keys of Japanese philosophy to a healthy body, mind, and spirit. They have now adapted their bestselling book for young readers. Young adults can find their Ikigai too!Refraction and Retinoscopy: How to Pass the Refraction Certificate (MasterPass)

reading&” (Graham Greene). In 1973, Paul Theroux embarked on a four-month journey by train from the United Kingdom through Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. In The Great Railway Bazaar, he records in vivid detail and penetrating insight the many fascinating incidents, adventures, and encounters of his grand, intercontinental tour. Asia's fabled trains—the Orient Express, the Khyber Pass Local, the Frontier Mail, the Golden Arrow to Kuala Lumpur, the Mandalay Express, the Trans-Siberian Express—are the stars of a journey that takes Theroux on a loop eastbound from London's Victoria Station to Tokyo Central, then back from Japan on the Trans-Siberian. Brimming with Theroux's signature humor and wry observations, this engrossing chronicle is essential reading for both the ardent adventurer and the armchair traveler.Eyelid Surgery: A Fresh Perspective on Correcting Common Conditions
Par Vladimir Thaller. 2023
This book is a practical guide for anyone who performs eyelid surgery, whatever their specialty, and is particularly relevant for…
ophthalmologists in training and non-oculoplastic surgeons who may venture into this field. The step-wise text is supported by numerous original illustrations. It emphasises a logical, minimalist approach to lid surgery and challenges some popular practices. The novel techniques unique to this volume may be of interest to experienced oculoplastic surgeons. They include emphasis on the superiority of Meibomian orifice line lid traction suture placement over using the grey line. This makes bolsterless suture tarsorrhaphy a viable and better alternative to temporary surgical tarsorrhaphy. Maximal use of direct closure and directed laissez-faire encourages tissue expansion in eyelid reconstruction, aided greatly by the placement of a magic suture. The seductively simple medial canthal thermoplasty corrects medial lid laxity without dissection. The control of active thyroid eye disease with orbital depot steroid injections, the importance of full orbital volume replacement after eye removal and the superiority of modified Bick lid margin resection over the lateral tarsal strip for lid tightening are further departures from traditional practice. How to Live Japanese

Empire Made: My Search for an Outlaw Uncle Who Vanished in British India
Par Kief Hillsbery. 2015
Lost in time for generations, the story of a 19th-century English gentleman in British India—a family mystery of love found…
and loyalties abandoned, finally brought to light In 1841, twenty-year-old Nigel Halleck set out for Calcutta as a clerk in the East India Company. He went on to serve in the colonial administration for eight years before abruptly leaving the company under a cloud and disappearing in the mountain kingdom of Nepal, never to be heard from again. While most traces of his life were destroyed in the bombing of his hometown during World War II, Nigel was never quite forgotten—the myth of the man who headed East would reverberate through generations of his family. Kief Hillsbery, Nigel&’s nephew many times removed, embarked on his own expedition, spending decades researching and traveling through India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Nepal in the footsteps of his long-lost relation. In uncovering the remarkable story of Nigel&’s life, Hillsbery beautifully renders a moment in time when the arms of the British Empire extended around the world. Both a powerful history and a personal journey, Empire Made weaves together a clash of civilizations, the quest to discover one&’s own identity, and the moving tale of one man against an empire.“One of the funniest, most touching and bizarre nonfiction books I’ve read.”—Boston GlobeLarry’s Kidney is Daniel Asa Rose’s wild-and-crazy memoir…

anaesthesia facility, are usually managed only in tertiary eye care centers. Being a difficult entity for comprehensive evaluation, many ophthalmologists lack adequate experience in diagnosing and managing this specialized group of patients. Pediatric glaucoma are an important cause of ocular morbidity and visual impairment, which if diagnosed in time, pays dividend in terms of improved quality of life, visual outcome and less disability associated life years in this young age group. Early diagnosis, prompt and effective treatment and rehabilitation play an important role in final visual outcomes. The book covers all important aspects of pediatric examination beginning from clinical examination, diagnostic investigations and treatment protocols. Certain examinations like intraocular pressure measurement, gonioscopy, detailed fundus examination need sedation/ anaesthesia. The video based procedural modules aim to explain standard protocols for performing basic examination in children, such as, under anaesthesia or sedation. It has a case based approach for all types of childhood glaucomas, which helps the residents, glaucoma fellows and practicing ophthalmologists alike to identify different types of childhood glaucomas, plan respective management and refer early, whenever indicated for these conditions. The book will serve as a ready reckoner, an authentic reference book and a teaching tool for practicing glaucoma specialists, general ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents and glaucoma fellows. The editors have extensive experience in dealing with pediatric glaucoma and contributed years of teaching and research in this field. This book primarily consists of images, diagrams, case presentations and illustrative videos wherever required. It illustrates the clinical findings of different pediatric glaucomas and hence acts as a practical teaching tool by providing a plethora of clinical pictures in adjunct to a short case scenario.Necropolis

detection and the supernatural from Singh."--Publishers Weekly"Sajan Dayal, a Delhi detective, pursues a serial (though nonlethal) collector of human fingers. Dayal's team encounters would-be vampires and werewolves, plus a woman named Razia who may or may not be centuries old."--Publishers Weekly, Spring 2016 Announcements"An intriguing mix of history, myth and the realities of contemporary New Delhi...Astonishing and satisfying."--Reviewing the Evidence"Superbly gothic...The novel is a compelling one and certain to be a great addition to courses on detective fiction and noir, especially given its focus on a city that has not necessarily or traditionally been attached to mystery and mayhem. Singh is giving places like Los Angeles and San Francisco a run for their money in this re-envisioning of the urban noir."--Asian American Literature Fans"Necropolis is a ravishing beauty of prose that is as sumptuous as it is gripping...Imagine a cocktail of V.S. Naipaul, Agatha Christie, Elmore Leonard, and E.M. Forster, and you have the essence of this haunting and ferociously charming novel."--Ken Bruen, author of Green Hell"I tore though Necropolis with great pleasure and a fair measure of unease. It's a grisly, wonderfully written novel that interweaves disparate genres and styles into a whole that satisfies thoroughly. As fine a crime novel as I've read in the last year."--Scott Phillips, author of The Ice Harvest"Avtar Singh's Necropolis is an ode to ancient, medieval, and Old Delhi, a romantic ballad that cuts across time, if not place, and melds features of classic detective fiction with those of the hard-boiled and roman noir in a style that is exquisitely the author's."--Sumana Mukherjee, MintNecropolis follows Sajan Dayal, a detective in pursuit of a serial (though nonlethal) collector of fingers. He encounters would-be vampires and werewolves, and a woman named Razia who may or may not be centuries old. Guided by Singh's gorgeous and masterful writing, the novel peels back layers of a city in thrall to its past, hostage to its present, and bitterly divided as to its future. Delhi went from being an imperial capital to provincial backwater in a few centuries: the journey back to exploding commercial metropolis has been compressed into a few decades. Combining elements of crime, fantasy, and noir, Necropolis tackles the questions of origin, ownership, and class that such a revolution inevitably raises. The world of Delhi, the sweep of its history--its grandeur, grimness, and criminality--all of it comes alive in Necropolis. The Ophthalmic Office Procedures Handbook
