Par Ketaki Chowkhani and Craig Wynne. 2024
This book examines, for perhaps the first time, singlehood at the intersections of race, media, language, culture, literature, space, health,…
and life satisfaction. It adopts an interdisciplinary approach, borrowing from sociology, literary studies, medical humanities, race studies, linguistics, demographic studies, and critical geography to understand singlehood in the world today. This collection of essays aims to establish the discipline of Singles Studies, finding new ways of examining it from various disciplinary and cultural perspectives. It begins with laying the field and then moves on to critically look at how race has shaped the way we understand singlehood in the West and how class, age, gender, privilege, and the media play a role in shaping singlehood. It argues for a need for increased interdisciplinarity within the field, for example, analyzing singlehood from the perspective of medical humanities. The volume also explores the role workplace, living arrangements, financial status, and gender play in single people’s life satisfaction. With an interdisciplinary and transnational approach, this interdisciplinary volume seeks to establish Singles Studies as a truly global discipline. This pathbreaking volume would be of interest to students and researchers of sociology, literature, linguistics, media studies, and psychology.EMI Classroom Communication: A Corpus-Based Approach (Routledge Focus on English-Medium Instruction in Higher Education)

Longitudinal Structural Equation Modeling is a comprehensive resource that reviews structural equation modeling (SEM) strategies for longitudinal data to help…
readers determine which modeling options are available for which hypotheses. This accessibly written book explores a range of models, from basic to sophisticated, including the statistical and conceptual underpinnings that are the building blocks of the analyses. By exploring connections between models, it demonstrates how SEM is related to other longitudinal data techniques and shows when to choose one analysis over another. Newsom emphasizes concepts and practical guidance for applied research rather than focusing on mathematical proofs, and new terms are highlighted and defined in the glossary. Figures are included for every model along with detailed discussions of model specification and implementation issues and each chapter also includes examples of each model type, descriptions of model extensions, comment sections that provide practical guidance, and recommended readings. Expanded with new and updated material, this edition includes many recent developments, a new chapter on growth mixture modeling, and new examples. Ideal for graduate courses on longitudinal (data) analysis, advanced SEM, longitudinal SEM, and/or advanced data (quantitative) analysis taught in the behavioral, social, and health sciences, this new edition will continue to appeal to researchers in these fields. The Kinderchat Guide to Elementary School Projects: A Playful Approach to Learning

Struggling transit agencies.…
An epidemic of pedestrian fatalities. It is clear that transportation is not working in the United States and that we need to rethink our approach. In Shifting Gears, Susan Handy provides an in-depth history of the ideas embedded in American transportation policy and the emergence of new ways of thinking that could give us better transportation options. Weaving in bits of her own personal narrative, Handy gives readers a deeper and clearer understanding of our transportation system and the roots of its successes and failures.Handy covers the myriad costs of car ownership, the futility of expanding highways, and the misplaced faith in technological innovation. She offers new ideas and strategies that can improve the health of our car-centric transportation system—most crucially, the idea that communities across the country must create an array of choices for daily travel. Shifting Gears asserts that a diverse transportation ecosystem is essential for creating more just, sustainable communities, but getting there will take a dramatic shift in how we think about transportation.Soziologische Gegenwartsdiagnosen 3

Par Jyoti Rookshana Jhagroo, Patricia Martha Stringer. 2023
This book provides authentic practice-based inquiries by pre-service teachers. Their reflective narratives showcase their individual inquiries as they navigated their…
self-chosen professional learning journeys through the teaching as inquiry framework. The narratives advance what it means to be a reflective practitioner in practice and highlight necessary dispositional skill sets to attain valuable professional learning through inquiry. Through an inquiry stance, pre-service teachers are liberated from being knowledge consumers to local knowledge producers relevant to their practice. The dissonance this shift creates, negates the ‘comfortable doing’ of teaching to make the act of teaching authentic, relevant, and powerful.

examines how this body of work intersects with important cultural debates to define women’s social, physical, and mental health. The book sketches out prominent shifts in cultural reactions to the idea of diffused agency and the prized model of the interiorized, individual person capable of self will and governance. Melissa Rampelli takes up the work of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, George Eliot, and Thomas Hardy, showing how the authors play with and manipulate stock literary figures to contribute to this dialogue about the causes and cures of women’s hysterical distress. It was perhaps the most wretchedly aspersive race and gender scandal of recent times: the dramatic testimony of Anita Hill…
