was the perfect place to live unnoticed from the rest of the world. But Hunter's life suddenly changes when his dad is laid off from his job and their family is forced to move in order to make ends meet. Trying to get back on their feet, Hunter's family relocates to the wild mountains of Colorado, far away from the city life Denver offers. But tiny Pine Bluff is barely big enough to have a school and it offers Hunter no place to hide from prying eyes. As bad as things seem, they are about to get much worse for Hunter. He discovers that a widowed rancher nicknamed Crazy Kate and a nasty bully named Max have developed a special interest in this city boy. But Hunter soon realizes there is something more to this sleepy, little town up in the mountains. His life takes an unexpected turn when he awakes one day to the majestic bugle call of an elk named Boss. Can this city kid unplug from his video games and plug into the great outdoors? Can his family survive the move to Redemption Road? Can one magnificent bull elk transform an entire town?Fire Flight: A Novel
Par John J. Nance. 2003
The New York Times–bestselling author “successfully melds a timely topic, forest fires, with his specialty, pulse-pounding airborne excitement” (Booklist).Veteran pilot…
Clark Maxwell thought his firebombing days were well behind him. But when Jerry Stein, Maxwell’s friend and airtanker fleet-owner, calls at the height of the fire season to beg him to reenter the war, he doesn’t hesitate. A pair of ferocious forest fires is raging out of control, threatening to destroy Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and incinerate thousands of area homes. After a mysterious string of violent airborne accidents among the airtanker fleet claims the lives of some of the most fearless and experienced veterans, a paranoia starts to spread . . . In the middle of the area’s worst wildfire season in history, Maxwell is convinced that a sinister cover-up is behind the rash of horrific air disasters. Were the planes’ inspection papers forged? Is someone capitalizing on these crashes? As he races to unravel a very real mystery and prevent a natural disaster of massive proportions, Maxwell’s probe reaches the upper levels of the very government agencies charged with mounting the aerial firefighting effort—a move that for wholly unexpected reasons just may cost him his life . . . and the life of Karen Jones, the married smoke jumper with whom he seems to have fallen in love.In amazing detail, with the signature authenticity only a veteran pilot could provide, John J. Nance creates a hair-raising thriller that will leave readers breathless from cover to cover.“Nance’s best book in years.” —Publishers WeeklyBoys Love Manga and Beyond: History, Culture, and Community in Japan

Boys Love Manga and Beyond looks at a range of literary, artistic and other cultural products that celebrate the beauty…
of adolescent boys and young men. In Japan, depiction of the “beautiful boy” has long been a romantic and sexualized trope for both sexes and commands a high degree of cultural visibility today across a range of genres from pop music to animation. In recent decades, “Boys Love” (or simply BL) has emerged as a mainstream genre in manga, anime, and games for girls and young women. This genre was first developed in Japan in the early 1970s by a group of female artists who went on to establish themselves as major figures in Japan's manga industry. By the late 1970s many amateur women fans were getting involved in the BL phenomenon by creating and self-publishing homoerotic parodies of established male manga characters and popular media figures. The popularity of these fan-made products, sold and circulated at huge conventions, has led to an increase in the number of commercial titles available. Today, a wide range of products produced both by professionals and amateurs are brought together under the general rubric of “boys love,” and are rapidly gaining an audience throughout Asia and globally. This collection provides the first comprehensive overview in English of the BL phenomenon in Japan, its history and various subgenres and introduces translations of some key Japanese scholarship not otherwise available. Some chapters detail the historical and cultural contexts that helped BL emerge as a significant part of girls' culture in Japan. Others offer important case studies of BL production, consumption, and circulation and explain why BL has become a controversial topic in contemporary Japan.Treasure Hunters Digital Omnibus (Treasure Hunters)

Par Ilan Stavans. 2020
An encyclopedic collaboration between award-winning Mexican American scholar Ilan Stavans and illustrator Eko, A Pre-Columbian Bestiary features lively and informative…
descriptions of forty-six religious, mythical, and imaginary creatures from the Nahua, Aztec, Maya, Tabasco, Inca, Aymara, and other cultures of Latin America. From the siren-like Acuecuéyotl and the water animal Chaac to the class-conscious Oc and the god of light and darkness Xólotl, the magnificent entities in this volume belong to the same family of real and invented creatures imagined by Dante, Franz Kafka, C. S. Lewis, Jorge Luis Borges, Umberto Eco, and J. K. Rowling. They are mined from indigenous religious texts, like the Popol Vuh, and from chronicles, both real and fictional, of the Spanish conquest by Diego Durán, Bernal Díaz del Castillo, and Fernando de Zarzamora, among others. In this playful compilation, Stavans distills imagery from the work of magic realist masters such as Juan Rulfo and Gabriel García Márquez; from songs of protest in Mexico, Guatemala, and Peru; and from aboriginal beasts in Jewish, Muslim, European, British, and other traditions. In the spirit of imaginative invention, even the bibliography is a mixture of authentic and concocted material. An inspiring record of resistance and memory from a civilization whose superb pantheon of myths never ceases to amaze, A Pre-Columbian Bestiary will delight anyone interested in the history and culture of Latin America.Ever gotten lost in a book?
