Résumé
The author has acquired a reputation for handling themes in which the subject is crime but with the emphasis on the exploration of the character and the creation of an atmosphere of unease and suspense. These are the qualities manifest… in this collection of short stories. The recurrent themes are those of the consequences of conscience, of the accuser becoming the accused, of the assailant becoming the victim. In two of the stories, for example, the author deals with forms of mental disturbance, while another two cross the frontiers of the supernatural. 1976.
