Summary
During the Spanish Civil War, Clancy Cox, a volunteer nurse from Australia, works tirelessly to assist Republican soldiers in their fight against fascism, but the conflict does not go as well as planned: the Popular Front’s swift victory grows ever… more unlikely, and famine has taken hold. But Clancy finds hope in the person of Douglas Ross, a Canadian soldier from the International Brigade who Clancy nurses back to health, physically and spiritually. But with the defeat of the Republic looming, Ross chooses to return to war, leaving Clancy alone and pregnant - but determined to reunite with her lost lover.
