Summary
After William's grandfather dies and his parents separate, William's mother takes him to an animal shelter to find a pet. William picks, Riley, a golden lab. Riley is a loving, loyal and constant companion. When William and Riley visit a… good neighbor, Peachie, everything changes. Riley charges Peachie's retired race horse causing a leg injury. When Riley repeats his behavior, the animal control takes Riley away. Local laws state that animals that chase are put down. It is up to William to try to save Riley from death. For grades 3-6
