Résumé
Following the Civil War, most African Americans in the South became sharecroppers whose lives were essentially controlled by plantation owners. Cooper explains how, shortly after the outbreak of World War I and the reduction of European immigrants, a new job… market opened in the North for black farmworkers. He discusses the effect the Great Migration between 1915 and 1930 had on the United States. For grades 5-8
